about BNM

The Black Night Market (BNM) was launched on April 29, 2022, in Tacoma, WA, with a mission to create a vibrant and innovative marketplace for BIPOC business owners to showcase and sell their products, art, and services. Since then, BNM has expanded throughout Pierce and King County, providing opportunities and exposure to over 2,500 BIPOC-owned businesses and 250 performing artists. Our events feature a dynamic blend of vendors, live performances, workshops, food trucks, a beer garden, games, art installations, and more, making BNM a truly unique experience. By creating a platform for representation and cultural celebration, BNM continues to empower and uplift artists and entrepreneurs, fostering community connections and economic growth.

The Black Night Market will take place throughout 2025 at various locations, featuring both our OG events and collaborative events. Our next events include:

Meet the founder!

The Black Night Market LLC was founded by Mari Griffin, a Tacoma native, local artist, community worker, mentor, and business owner. Motivated by the lack of economic opportunities and representation for Black-owned businesses, Mari launched the Black Night Market, the First Annual Black Business Brunch, and Poetry After Dark. What started as a vision to empower and uplift Black entrepreneurs has now evolved into a dynamic production company that celebrates the rich diversity of Black culture and the talent of performing artists.

BNM is more than just an event—it's an experience that feels like one big family gathering where we come together to network, celebrate, and support Black culture and community. Our events are thoughtfully curated by us, for us, and are proudly 100% Black and women-owned and operated.
